Blackjack History
Originating in France as far back as the 1700s, blackjack was first called ‘Vingt-et-un’ which translated means ‘21’. It only became known as ‘blackjack’ when it was introduced into American casinos in the 1920s who offered a 10-to-1 bonus to players if their hand consisted of an ace of spades and a jack of clubs or spades – thus giving the game its new name.

The game is played with one or more 52 card decks where the ace has the value of either 1 or 11 – you get to decide. The face cards, i.e. the king, queen or jack count for 10, an obviously cards 2 – 10 are their stated value. The objective is to get as near to 21 as possible to beat the dealer. After placing your bet you’ll be dealt one card face up and one card down. A real blackjack is achieved when 21 is reached within two cards. You’ll also win when your cards have a higher value than the dealer’s without going over 21.
